Parenting Your Parents, Part 1: Understanding the Changes of Aging

October 25, 2026 — Episode #144

At some point the roles reverse: the children who were once cared for become the ones watching for stumbles, memory slips, and loneliness in the people who raised them.

Jerry and Becky begin a new series on parenting your parents, drawing on their own experience caring for aging family members. They walk through the first thing to expect, the emotional hills and valleys that come with this season, and then three kinds of change that older adults face: physical changes like balance problems, chronic conditions, and the need for more rest; cognitive changes like memory loss, along with why getting tested early and keeping a list of important information can help; and emotional changes like isolation, depression, and the loss of friends and spouses. They share personal stories about making room in their home for an aging parent, the importance of protecting a parent’s dignity, and a passage of Scripture about caring for family at home. The hosts also announce a Holy Land trip planned for February 2027.
